High Hold

High Hold is a fortress ruled by Grand Duke Frederic Tempest's son, Artin.

The fortress is large and old, and stands atop a tall, stone hill offering good views south to the Evermoor, north to Moonwood, and east and west along the Rauvin Road. The fortress's heights are adorned with beautiful wooden statues depicting a howling wolf. A side road leads from the Rauvin Road up to the fortress, winding up along the hillside all the way to the fortress gate. Over the course of history, a small village has grown up at the road junction, home mainly to the castle's servants and soldiers' families.

Traditionally, the fortress has been ruled by the Grand Duke's eldest son until the Grand Duke's death.

The village of High Hold has one inn, called the Vicious Dog. The inn is owned by Ret Berryman, an unbending old stubborn man who has lived in the village his whole life and inherited the inn from his father. He sees omens everywhere and in every event. "The gods speak to us, we just need to listen," he often proclaims. He gladly helps those in need regardless of cost, and sees himself as a pillar of support for ordinary folk. He's also extremely inflexible, set in his ways, and hard to persuade to change his mind once he's decided on something.
