Muteford

A small village of about 550 residents, right on the southern edge of Cold Wood. A stream running through Cold Wood flows just east of the village. The road to Adbar passes through the village. Baron Vernon Aldworth rules this village.

The village of Muteford is extremely sleepy. People are hardly ever seen outdoors; they've rather fortified themselves indoors. A few older men can be seen leaning against the corners of their houses as they watch the party pass by. The baron's soldiers can be seen patrolling the village streets. By the riverbank, at the bridge, atop a hill, rises Baron Vernon Aldworth's castle.

The inn is also fairly quiet. A few older villagers are spending time there, who perhaps don't have as much work in the winter. Many of the village's women are pregnant. There are, however, few small children. There are some middle-aged people, and most residents are older folk. All in all, the village stays roughly the same size from year to year, and doesn't grow. Many of the newborns, however, are given to the forest's Lady. She needs children in order to live. From the good ones, she raises new witches.
